Film-lovers at Gorleston are celebrating the first birthday of a community cinema at the town library.
The cinema was set up by Creative Arts East and shows one film a month. A small army of volunteers has been trained to become projectionists so as many members of the community as possible can see blockbusters, romantic comedies and thrillers.
Film fans are now counting the days until they can see the hit film, The Road, which stars Viggo Mortenson trying to survive in an apocalyptic world, on November 11 at 7.30pm.
Peter Ransome, community librarian at Gorles-ton, said: “This is a low-cost community cinema which has something for everyone and is run by volunteers for the whole of Gorleston to use.”
Gorleston’s cinema is one of a wide network of community cinemas set up by Creative Arts East’s Village Screen project, which was started in 2005. Alice Morelli, Village Screen development officer, said: “I am delighted the cinema at Gorleston has become so popular.”
