THE High Steward of Great Yarmouth Michael Falcon CBE will receive honorary Freedom of the Borough at a special meeting of the council in October.

Mr Falcon was the director of the former Lacons Brewery and since 1996 he has been chairman of the St Nicholas' Church Preservation Trust. He is also a stalwart supporter of Caister Lifeboat.

The last Freedom of the Borough ceremony was in 2006 when both councillor David Thompson MBE and the Hemsby Inshore Rescue Service were given honorary freedom.

Leader of the borough council Barry Coleman said this was an excellent opportunity to thank Mr Falcon for his support of the borough during his 25 years as High Steward, a lifelong appointment.

Honourary freedoms started in 1208 following the granting of the King John Charter. Mr Falcon's name will now be added to the millennium plaque in the Town Hall alongside William Pitt the Elder MP and Lord Horatio Nelson.
