EVERYDAY objects have unearthed the artist streak in children from Reedham Primary School.

On Monday pupils were given their first glimpse of an unusual piece of art they helped to create - which included an action man's head, a pirate's eye patch, watches, mobile phones, hand bags and necklaces.

In April dozens of children and their families pressed items special to them into a large piece of clay at an interactive event in the village hall as part of the inaugural Broads and Marshes Arts Festival.

Then local artist Alison Atkins, from South Walsham, made a mould of the embedded items.

It is hoped that once a mounting is found for the art work it will go on display at the primary school.

Susan Telford, from the arts festival said: “The children absolutely loved seeing it. In fact they swarmed all over it.

“It has made art more accessible to children because they made the art work and have been part of the procedure.”

The next events in the Broads and Marshes festival are a Shakespeare for Kids event from 10am to 12pm at Freethorpe Primary School on June 13 and a Roman living history day at Acle Primary school on July 4 from 10am to 4pm.
