A CRUCIAL funding decision on a multimillion pound regeneration scheme for St George's Theatre and King Street in Great Yarmouth is just days away. A CRUCIAL funding decision on a multimillion pound regeneration scheme for St George's Theatre and King Street in Great Yarmouth is just days away.
Conservationists have been working with English Heritage to work out the detail of a contemporary pavilion, planned to add space to the former theatre, now referred to as St George's Chapel which is Grade 1 listed and in urgent need of repair.
On Wednesday the borough council's cabinet is poised to approve a funding contribution of �750,000 to the project, subject to the approval of multiagency funding worth around �8.75m.
About �4m of this funding is due to come from CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment), a new government programme aimed at culture and heritage in seaside towns.
Other funding partners are the Heritage Lottery Fund, East of England Development Agency, English Heritage and the county and borough councils.
The scheme will complete the green corridor from river to sea adding to the improvements at St George's Park. The planned pavilion at St George's will allow extra room for front of house facilities toilets and a caf� although details have yet to be finalise.
The cabinet meeting will be held at the Town Hall on Wednesday at 6pm.
