A PROPERTY developer was given a suspended jail sentence yesterday for assaulting a man in a pub near Lowestoft.
John Scott, 43, of Burton Buildings, off St Peters Road, Yarmouth, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm at a previous hearing after he punched a man in the Dukes Head at Somerleyton.
Sentencing him at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday, Judge David Goodin said: “It was a very unattractive offence committed in a public house which was quite crowded in the presence of others who were frightened and alarmed by what you did.”
Judge Goodin gave Scott a six-month prison sentence which was suspended for two years and ordered him to pay costs of £8,550 and complete 150 hours of unpaid work in the community. He was also told he would be on a 20-week curfew between 8pm and 6am daily.
Mitigating, defence barrister Richard Potts said: “The extent of the defendant's remorse is considerable. He wished that he had not gone out that night at all.”
