A DJ's misfortune proved to be a source of inspiration for a new business he is starting supplying equipment for DJs in the Norwich and Great Yarmouth area.

When Wayne Stevens, 34, had to deal with an amplifier, which had exploded before he was due to perform at a wedding, he looked around the Norwich area for a company that could supply him with new equipment.

But despite his best efforts, he could not find one and ended up calling on a friend of a friend to carry out the repair.

However, the incident provided Wayne, of Scratby, with the idea of opening his new shop in Beach Road in the village supplying DJ equipment, including mixing desks and headphones and party items.

His wife Shelley, 35, had joked he could open up a DJ supply business after the couple drove past an empty shop in Scratby.

He said: “We could not find anybody to hire the equipment from locally. The nearest place was Norwich.”

Wayne added: “I think there is definitely a market for this type of business in this area.”

The father-of-one became a DJ playing pubs and clubs while living in High Wycombe 10 years ago after taking over from a friend who quit his DJ job.

Previously, Mr Stevens had been working as a painter and decorator but when he became a DJ, he took on the role full time.

His new shop, which opens on July 25, will also supply party gear including fancy dress outfits, face paints, balloons and banners.
