Local residents and members from Great Yarmouth’s Labour group joined Nelson, Cobholm and Southtown county councillor Mike Smith-Clare in tackling problem litter areas across the town.

Following local concerns, the volunteers spent time clearing up rubbish and bagging it in readiness for collection by GYB Services. The volunteers collected over 15 sacks of litter in and around the Central Library and St George’s area of the town.

Following the success of the clear ups, similar community led schemes are being planned throughout the summer.

Cllr Mike Smith-Clare, who contested the parliamentary seat in the last general election, said: “We are determined to show local people that we listen to their needs and do something about them. I am proud we are both visible and pro-active.

“It has been a superb opportunity for us to meet residents in the heart of their communities and work alongside them in order to address their concerns.”
