ACLE carnival could be returning following a lengthy absence after fundraisers in the village decided to organise a summer extravaganza.

However, there is unlikely to be a traditional procession of floats through the village, but organisers, the Acle Fundraisers, are planning to hold a street carnival instead with a parade by local schoolchildren.

Angela Bishop, secretary of the Acle Fundraisers, said the parade on June 12 would involve pupils at Acle Primary and High School and would take a “Round-the-World” theme with children dressing up in the traditional clothes of other cultures.

She said there would also be a traditional village fete on the same day showcasing local bands.

The route of the parade is yet to be confirmed, although the fete will be held at the high school. In the evening, there will be more music events.

Angela said: “We felt it was a good time to have the event. In previous years we have had a good look around and there is not much going on that weekend and we did not want to clash with events in other villages.”

A carnival has not been held in the village for many years, and a full carnival with floats since 1989.
