POLICE have confirmed the identity of a body found in the river near Great Yarmouth last Friday, as being that of missing dad, 30-year-old Derek Tempest from Great Yarmouth.

A murder investigation has now been launched.

A post mortem examination conducted this afternoon was unable to establish a cause of death due the circumstances in which the body was found.

The body was found by a member of the public on Friday, at about 5pm, in the river close to the Berney Arms public house.

Officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Tempest's death.

Derek Tempest was reported missing in October last year and was last seen at around 4pm on Wednesday, October 28, in the Blackfriars Road area of Great Yarmouth.

One line of enquiry has been the relationship between Mr Tempest and the owners of a garage at Camden Place in Great Yarmouth where the bodies of James Hall, 60, and Andrew Ventham, 49, both of Queens Road, were discovered on Monday 2 November. Their deaths are being treated as unexplained but are not believed to be suspicious.

Following forensic examinations carried out at the scene, experts discovered evidence which suggests that Mr Tempest may have come to serious harm at the garage.
