More than one kilometre of Great Yarmouth's riverside road system is to be closed off to the public as work on completing the �50m outer harbour gathers pace.
The closure of the South Denes loop will see parts of South Beach Parade and South Denes Road gated off after Christmas when they will become part of the EastPort UK harbour site.
Non-port traffic travelling south along South Beach Parade will be directed to turn right on to Hartmann Road which connects to South Denes Road. South Denes will be gated off close to the river mouth with a new turning area created for vehicles.
Eddie Freeman, EastPort's chief executive, said the South Denes loop had been kept open for as long as possible during the construction of the outer harbour.
He added “The construction phase is coming to an end and from the end of this month it is important that the outer harbour and the river port can operate efficiently, securely and safely as a single entity. This would not have been possible if the road had stayed open to general traffic.”
The final date and timing of the road closure will depend upon the completion of work on the gates and the installation of road signs.
