A ROLLESBY woman has been recognised for her voluntary work around her home village and in helping the blind and partially sighted.
Janet Hodds received the Community Service Award from the Rotary Club of Great Yarmouth for her work, which has included collecting large print books from the library and taking them to partially sighted people in Yarmouth and her voluntary work with Grapevine the Talking Newspaper for the Blind in Yarmouth.
Her award was presented at the Community Service Award luncheon at the Burlington Hotel in Yarmouth on April 27 and is given to a man or woman selected by a committee of the club who has, in their opinion, represented the highest commitment to the local community.
Although the award is made for a specific year, in this instance 2009-2010, the recipient has probably given numerous years of community service.
Rotarian John Newman a member of the Vocational-Community Service Committee read her citation, which praised her contribution to village life in Rollesby and her charity work for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Accompanying Janet to the award luncheon was her husband, Colin Hodds and two of her sisters-in-law Daphne Bensley and Delia Thrower.
