I wonder if publishing the following may save some householders in the Hemsby area from becoming involved in a very costly scam.

A caller is visiting properties in Hemsby offering to arrange a free loft survey to ensure that roofs are properly insulated.

The Government is funding a special free service for the Hemsby area.

Fibreglass insulation has been superseded by a more modern system. An insulating foam is sprayed directly onto the back of the roof tiles.

This stabilises the roof tiles and provides the most up to date insulation to the loft space hugely decreasing heating costs.

The caller tries to make a date for a surveyor to call to carry out a free survey. “20 or 30 householders in your area have already signed up for the free survey.”

A computer check with Norfolk County Council Trading Standards directs callers to the Citizens Advice Bureau who have records of similar scams in the area.

Surely a case of “Buyer be very aware”.
