The busy centre of Great Yarmouth came to a standstill this morning as this year’s Poppy Appeal was launched.
Civic dignitaries, including the Mayor Cllr Kerry Robinson-Payne, and representatives from the Royal British Legion Great Yarmouth branch, as well as other organisations, listened as the poppy poem was read out to launch the appeal.
The RBL’s temporary Poppy Shop is in a unit within the fixed six-day market in the town centre from now until Remembrance Day, November 11.
As well as remembrance services in Yarmouth and Gorleston on November 11, there is also a Festival of Remembrance in St George’s Theatre with all profits being shared between the RBL and the Salvation Army.
On Remembrance Sunday, there is the traditional service in St George’s Park, followed by a second service at the Far East Prisoners of War memorial on the seafront.
