SAKS Great Yarmouth is holding a special charity day on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 28, when they will be giving away free haircuts to raise funds for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

The award-winning salon has linked up with The Mercury to give away free cut and finishes - all they ask in return is that each client donates a minimum of 10 when they visit for their free appointment. Saks will send all proceeds from the charity to the Disasters Emergency Committee's Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

The devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti last month. Although there is as yet no accurate assessment of the death toll it is clear that millions of people live in the affected area. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, greatly increasing the risk that people will suffer or die in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

Despite the challenges, many DEC member agencies are already helping on the ground while others are preparing to do so. Very substantial humanitarian assistance will be required to ensure survivors get food, clean water, emergency shelter, medical care and other support.

Saks wants to raise as much money as possible to help the appeal and is keen to keep the Haiti people's plight in the forefront of everyone's minds.

To book an appointment on Monday, call 01493 853 855 or visit the salon at 19 Broad Row, as soon as you can, mentioning you have read about the offer in The Mercury.

Note: in the Mercury it was printed as the wrong date, due to information given.

Terms & conditions: Free appointments are available with selected staff at Saks Great Yarmouth on February 28. Book early to avoid disappointment as appointments are subject to availability and may not be available if you turn up on the day. Cash donation to DEC must be made direct to the salon when you visit for your appointment. If you are unsuccessful in securing an appointment but still want to donate to the DEC, call the donation line on 0370 60 60 900 or visit www.dec.org.uk
