Young and old have been flocking to Martham over the Bank Holiday weekend on a special mission: scarecrow-spotting.

The village's third scarecrow festival saw ingeniously decorated scarecrows appear almost everywhere, from the church to shops and people's gardens.

Julie Beales, one of five friends organising the event, said: “We had a tremendous response from local groups and organisations and there are 136 scarecrows, 30 more than last year.

“We have got everything from television X-Factor judges and a schoolteacher to maypole dancers and mods on bikes, even people dressed up as living scarecrows.”

Donations and money charged to stallholders at a festival fete will go to Just for You, a new village youth group, and to a fund to secure the festival's future.
