Norfolk County Council, working in conjunction with Impress UK in Norwich, has produced a leaflet entitled How to Recycle Paint Tins, which is now available at Norfolk Recycling Centres.
Dan Jacobs, household waste officer, said: “Prior to working with Impress, we used to collect paint tins and place them in the non-recyclable waste bin. Now that Impress has clearly demonstrated used metal paint tins are 100pc recyclable, we are working together to this end.”
Impress approached Norfolk County Council with the idea, identifying not only the recycling potential but also cost savings resulting from not sending this material to landfill sites.
Matt Sykes from Impress UK said: “This really shows how local businesses and the general public can benefit from local government support. If other counties follow Norfolk's example, we can divert an estimated 12,000 tonnes of packing away from landfill each year.”
