School celebrates 'outstanding' report

PUPILS and staff at a Gorles-ton primary school returned from the Easter break on a high after the school received a glowing Ofsted report.

Stradbroke Primary was described as “outstanding” by the education watchdog and “revelling” in its new status as a primary following reorg-anisation from first school status.

Stradbroke Primary was described as “outstanding” by the education watchdog and “revelling” in its new status as a primary following reorg-anisation from first school status.

Classrooms and corridors were “brimming over with colourful displays of pupils' achievements”, creating a “wonderful environment” for learning. And parents have “over-whelming” support for the school.

The report said the 221-pupil school “strives for the very best for its

pupils” and central to this success

was the outstanding leadership.

The report goes on by saying “exceptional nurturing of pupils, from their first day at school, contributes significantly to their outstanding care, guidance and support”.

Good academic guidance ensures pupils' progress is managed well and they are “happy and enthusiastic”.

Inspectors said thorough and consistent systems for assessment led to the “outstanding progress” that pupils made through the school. Pupils who enter the school with standards below average quickly reach national standards in reading, writing and maths.

Pupils at the Lowestoft Road school respond well to taking on respons-ibility in things such as the school council and behave well in lessons.

Teaching is consistent, with staff knowing their subjects well. Ofsted said lessons were planned well and a variety of learning styles were used, including interactive white boards, which helped keep pupils focused on their work.

During their March visit, inspectors found a “strong sense” of community and teamwork among staff and pupils.

Headteacher Rosie Winterton said: “Everyone is absolutely thrilled with this report. Our school aims to provide high-quality, challenging and stimulating teaching, matched to the differing needs of our children, and this report confirms that we are doing just that.

“Our school provides a caring atmosphere where we nurture every pupil to help them become confident and independent children. This is down to the hard work and determination of staff, governors, pupils and parents.”
