STAFF from Filby, Hemsby, Rollesby and Winterton Primary schools joined forces to organise a Science and Technology Day for 60 children in Year 1, held at Winterton Primary School. A special guest from Shell Education provided a range of circus-based activities which helped the children to explore the concept of Forces in the environment. The children also designed and flew paper aeroplanes and carried out artwork using wax resist. This linked to the afternoon workshop on candles where every child added different coloured layers of molten wax to their own plain candle. The whole day was a huge success and Martin Wesley from Shell Education was so impressed by the children's input that he would like to make the Science and Technology Day an annual event. The Primary 4 cluster of schools have also arranged joint activities throughout 2009, for the children in the other year groups, involving singing, mathematics, ICT and a teddy bears' picnic.
