MORE than 90 children at a Gorleston School got into costumes to find out more about living and playing during the reign of Queen Victoria.

Year five children at Cliff Park Junior School arrived dressed in a wide range of Victorian costumes, and it wasn't the first time youngsters at the school have held such a historic day.

Year five co-ordinator Jamie McCallum said: “This is an annual event at Cliff Park, and we always encourage the children to dress up and play active roles throughout the day. The activities on offer are cross-curricular and tie in well with art, music, Drama, PE and Literacy - as well as history, of course.

“The staff have worked extremely hard to make the day a success, and the range of costumes the children have come to school in has been wonderful.”

The children were entertained by Malcolm Eccleston, who tours East Anglian school teaching children about British History. They watched a theatrical performance and took part in workshops including a Victorian classroom, drama and artifacts.

Although they had great fun throughout the day many of the youngsters were keen to get back to their televisions, CD's, DVDs and computers of the modern era.
