A WOMAN is channelling all her energies into raising money for an accident victim with a muscle-straining rowing feat - on dry land.

Lynsey Cowell, 23, of Turin Way, Hopton, is planning to row the distance of the channel on a rowing machine in aid of Emma Woolnough, from Gorleston, whose life was changed in an instant following an accident which claimed part of her leg.

She said she knew the 23-year-old as they both attended Cliff Park Middle and High schools as well as East Norfolk Sixth Form College, and their parents were also good friends.

The deputy manager at clothing store D2, in Market Gates Shopping Centre in Great Yarmouth, said she was not a rower, but had come up with the idea for the fundraiser because it would be easy to implement.

She planned to visit Emma at her family home in Upper Cliff Road, to discuss how she could help her financially, but said she did not know yet how the money would be spent.

She said: “I was shocked when I heard about the accident.”

The fundraiser will be held at the shopping centre, although a date is yet to be confirmed. Lynsey plans to hire the rowing equipment from her former school.

Emma is recovering well from her ordeal when a car mounted the pavement and hit her and an elderly couple.

She returned home a mere 10 days after surgeons at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital removed her left foot and shin to be greeted by a sea of cards, presents and balloons.
