A NUMBER of schools in the Great Yarmouth area were due to close yesterday as teachers went on strike over a planned pay rise.
The National Union of Teachers (NUT) has called the walkout over the three year pay deal, which will include a 2.45pc pay rise in September and further increases of 2.3pc in subsequent years.
Schools affected in Yarmouth include:
Broadland High - which will be closed to years seven, eight and 10
Brundall - closed to years 4S and 4B
Edward Worlledge Middle
Great Yarmouth High School- closed to years 8, 9 and 10
Greenacre First, Middle and Nursery
Happisburgh Primary - closed to Oak class (years 4 and 5) for the morning session
Hillside Avenue Primary and Nursery - closed to RI, RM, 1C, 2B, 4J, 5J/C, 6B, 6R
John Grant School - closed to class 4TT
North Denes Middle
Northrepps Primary
Peterhouse First
Peterhouse Middle - closed to classes 76V and 7S
Stalham High - closed to year 8
St George's First and Nursery - closed to year 3 and nursery
St Nicholas Junior School
