THOUSANDS of eyes were on these two cute donkeys at the weekend, a long way from their home at Scratby Garden Centre.

Fred and Fernando travelled to London to take part in the Palm Sunday services. For Fred it was all old hat; this was his annual visit and the pair started off at St Giles' Cripple Gate where they took centre stage in the first part of the service before leaving with some of the congregation and, accompanied by drummers and trumpeters, made their way to St Paul's Cathedral, watched on both sides of the roads by thousands of worshippers.

Along the route, Fred and Fernando met up with the cathedral choir who they led to Paternoster Square where a crowd of 2,000 people were waiting, with another 1,000 inside the cathedral. After a short service, Fred was given the honour of leading the procession up the steps and into the cathedral.

Fred and Fernando behaved impeccably, and it was because of their temperament they were invited to take part in this important ceremony and service. The best friends are owned by Sarah-Jayne Lawson who has 18 other donkeys at the garden centre.
