An inspirational Scratby woman has taken on a very special hot air balloon trip - at the seventh time of asking.

Betty Brown was nominated for a National Pride of Britain award last year, and rubbed shoulders with the stars at a glitzy bash in London in November.

And the 85-year-old was on Cloud Nine again last month after she took on a flight in a hot air balloon specially adapted for wheelchairs.

Mrs Brown was able to take on the vertiginous trip from the site near Bristol after raising £450 for three local disabled charities, the British Polio Fellowship and Marie Curie, and having sponsorship from generous donators.

But it wasn’t plain sailing. She has had to endure six cancellations over the past two years, all due to bad weather.

She said: “I would like to say a big thank you to my sponsors and to Lynn and Martin who got me there and supported me for the three days.”
