A man and his dog were found wet and cold by emergency teams called to rescue them in Sea Palling.

It is believed the dog rushed into the water to chase a large number of seals, and his owner then followed to rescue his pet.

The RNLI is now urging owners to keep their pets on leads if there are seals around.

Coastguards and Happisburgh Lifeboat leapt into action after reports of the incident at reef nine just before 2pm on Thursday .

The lifeboat searched for the pair until they were called by coastguards who found them both dripping on Sea Palling ramp after they had managed to get themselves out of the water.

The emergency crews checked the owner over and gave him advice.

An RNLI spokesman said: 'There were reports of a large number of seals in the sea and it is believed the dog went in after them.

'Our advice to dog owners is be aware of seals in the sea and keep dogs on leads if they are likely to enter the water. Never enter the water yourself to try and get your dog. The dog will find its own way ashore the owner may not.'
