Search for new police chief begins

Interviews to select Norfolk's new chief constable from a shortlist of four began yesterday.The force's current deputy chief constable Ian Learmonth, who is on the shortlist, has been in charge of Norfolk police since the beginning of the new year after the former chief, Ian McPherson, left to become assistant commissioner (territorial policing) with the Metropolitan Police.

Interviews to select Norfolk's new chief constable from a shortlist of four began yesterday.

The force's current deputy chief constable Ian Learmonth, who is on the shortlist, has been in charge of Norfolk police since the beginning of the new year after the former chief, Ian McPherson, left to become assistant commissioner (territorial policing) with the Metropolitan Police.

Norfolk Police Authority is expected to complete the interviews for the �134,000 post today with a decision being announced by the end of the week.

The other candidates are Adrian Leppard, current deputy chief constable at Kent police; Janet Williams, currently deputy assistant commissioner at the Met; and Philip Gormley, currently deputy chief constable at West Midlands police.
