NORFOLK and Suffolk have had their fair share of pop stars in recent years, the Darkness for example, who gained star status by being played on national radio.

Now, aspiring bands and singers have the chance to air their talents more locally by getting their music played on a new Hospital Radio Yare show.

Trevor Fuller's show Unsigned is broadcast every Thursday at midday for an hour, and features only local artists.

Trevor has been in groups for over 16 years and knows how hard it is for a band or singer to get a break or even be heard by the public. He is also involved in recording and has many contacts within the industry which could be useful for an aspiring pop star.

He was pleased to join Hospital Radio Yare, with part of his purpose being to air local talent.

Trevor said: “We have had local artists like The Darkness, Mylene Klass and Hannah Spirit, but they all made it big via London. It would be nice if we discovered a pop act and we could say you heard them here first.”

Asked if this material will be entertaining for the hospital patients he said: “You only have to look at the popularity of the X Factor to answer that question!”

Several presenters have tried with this format but since Neil Loads gave up the station's slot over a year ago there hasn't been a specific talent show broadcast on 1350 kHz in the medium waveband.

Trevor promises to play all material of any style and genre sent in provided it is not indecent and is produced to broadcast standard. He said it would also be a help if the work was accompanied by a short written explanation about how it was written and recorded, together with any background information about the artist which would make interesting listening for the Hospital Radio Yare audience.

Trevor is asking all unsigned acts to post their CD's to: Trevor Fuller, c/o Unsigned, Hospital Radio Yare, Northgate Street, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Telephone: 01493 842613
