The devastation left by a blaze which tore through a derelict former boys club is clear to see from above.

The building fire in an area of Hemsby known as the Marrams took 40 fire fighters over two hours to extinguish.

A crew from Hemsby Independent Lifeboat were among the first on the scene after seeing the flames while on a training exercise.

They used neighbour’s garden hoses to help keep the flames at bay from nearby chalets while waiting for the fire service to arrive.

Emergency services were called to St Marys Road, shortly after 7.20pm on Wednesday evening and immediately evacuated people staying in six nearby chalets.

The cause of the fire in still unknown and a fire investigation began yesterday.
