FIRST Furnishings, long established furniture retailers in Great Yarmouth, have acquired the former Heatrod Factory opposite Morrison's on Baker Street in Gorleston.

The 27,000 sq ft factory has stood empty for the past two years and after a successful planning application, retail consent has been granted.

First Furnishings have employed local architects to design and create a modern showroom, with auxiliary warehousing and off street parking. Work will start later this year, with completion due in 2010. It is hoped up to six new full-time jobs will be created.

Store manager Mark Hardy said: “These are exciting times as the company unfolds its growth strategy. First Furnishings' success in these difficult times has been attributable to its loyal base of customers built up over the last 15 years.”
