A Great Yarmouth woman and her brother are taking on a 32-mile trek in aid of a charity close to their hearts.
Claire Kennedy and her brother Andrew will be trekking across Dartmoor in aid of wish-granting charity Rays of Sunshine, and non-profit Florida resort, Give Kids The World.
It comes after Claire’s nephew, Luke, had his own wish granted to go on a magical Florida holiday, earlier this year. The money raised will help fund more wishes for seriously ill children aged three to 18-years-old, throughout the UK.
Claire and Andrew were inspired to raise money for the charity Rays of Sunshine after they organised for the Kennedy family to travel to Orlando.
The family then spent a magical week at the Give Kids the World village in Kissimmee, Florida.
In April 2015, Andrew’s son Luke was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a rare cancer. The illness had a huge impact on the family.
Fortunately, the nine-year-old is now in remission after undergoi chemotherapy and many trips to hospital during his treatment.
Despite what he has been through, Luke has remained brave and strong-willed throughout and is now full of energy.
In order to raise money, Claire and her brother will be taking on the trek challenge dressed as Star Wars villain, Darth Vader, in an attempt to raise around £5,000.
Andrew said: “I have had no previous experience of a walk of this kind.
“Although I am fit, I do see this as a challenge and an honour to try and help raise money to help some seriously ill children to feel like themselves once again.
“I want to give something back so that many more children and their families can have the same once in a lifetime experience.”
Claire and Andrew will be taking on the ‘Darthmoor’ challenge between August 12-15, starting from Okehampton and ending in Ivybridge.
