CHANGES to Great Yarmouth's town centre one way system as part of a 8.5m regeneration scheme have gone smoothly, a project engineer has said.
On Thursday the one way system on King Street and Deneside was reversed with traffic now running southwards, away from the Market Place, along King Street and northwards, towards the Market Place, along Deneside.
To help motorists and pedestrians get used to the new system, signs were in place a week beforehand and traffic marshals were at key junctions until Sunday to help people unused to the new measures.
Tim Ellis, project engineer at Norfolk County Council, said: “The changes to the one-way system came into force on Thursday morning with traffic flowing smoothly.”
The road changes, which have also seen bus stops moved, are part of plans to transform the St George's Chapel and King Street area into pedestrian friendly community areas.
