Craftsmen have carefully recreated part of an ancient Egyptian temple for two newly arrived VIP residents of the Great Yarmouth seafront.

The new arrivals are already settling into what is arguably the most luxurious crocodile pad in Europe…and made their first public appearance yesterday.

They are a pair of West African dwarf crocodiles, born at Bristol Zoo in 2001 and inappropriately christened Kyle and Cartman. It later transpired they were girls so have been renamed Anyang (crocodile) and Ntombi (girl) by staff at Yarmouth Sea Life Centre to reflect their African origins

“They have lived most of their lives in Twycross Zoo, and are registered as part of an international breeding programme,” said Sea Life displays supervisor Christine Pitcher.

Continents collide in the new 100,000 attraction, where other tanks feature a variety of creatures from South America, including frogs, archerfish, mudskippers and piranha.

“Our original plan was an Amazon-themed feature, but when we heard the two dwarf African crocodiles needed a new home and saw pictures of them we had a rapid rethink,” said Christine.
