A NUMBER of schools in the Great Yarmouth area have been forced to close due to the heavy snow which fell across the borough overnight and this morning.
Between 2 and 4cms has fallen across Yarmouth and forecaster Jim Bacon, from private weather service Weatherquest, said more snow was on the way for the rest of today.
Schools shut by the weather included Hillside and Homefield Primary Schools in Bradwell, Caister Junior, Infant and High Schools, Cliff Park High School and Cobholm Primary School.
Schools in other areas covered by the Mercury, including Acle, Brundall and Blofield were also closed.
The weather has also claimed the Reedham Parish Council meeting, which was due to take place on Monday .
Road conditions were also treacherous with slush affecting the A12 between Gorleston and Yarmouth and the section of New Road leading into Yarmouth close to the ASDA supermarket.
Mr Bacon said this morning: “There are going to be further snow showers this morning, before a lull and then we are expecting more snow later on today. But we are expecting the freezing weather and snow showers to continue over this weekend.”
Do you have a photo of today's snow? The Mercury is keen to receive any pictures, which can be sent to anne.edwards@archant.co.uk.
