More than 100 vehicles have been stopped during three days of speed checks by police in Bradwell.

Responding to concerns of residents about vehicles travelling at excess speed, officers carried out checks on three days – Saturday, October 15, Thursday, November 10 and Saturday, November 12 – and stopped 115 motorists. The highest speeds recorded were 49mph in a 30mph limit and 59mph in a 40mph limit.

Residents are also now playing their part in helping to prevent speeding in roads in the area. Community Speed Watch is now up and running in the Bradwell area and is already proving successful. Fifteen patrols have been conducted since the scheme started and 25 vehicles recorded as travelling at excess speed.

Community Speed Watch sees local people who have been trained to carry out speed checks volunteering their time to help make their town or village a safer place.

PCSO Mark Brown, of Bradwell Safer Neighbourhood Team, who helped carry out the checks with PCSO David Nickerson of the Southern Villages Safer Neighbourhood Team and colleagues from the Special Constabulary, said; “This recent campaign shows that speeding is still a big issue around the area. During the initiative several comments were made by the public about how they appreciated speeding being tackled and that our presence was making people slow down.

“This operation will continue to target areas which have been highlighted by residents and Safer Neighbourhood Teams will work with colleagues and partners to deal with drivers who disregard safety issues around speed and other motoring offences.”
