HONOURS were even between punters and bookies over the course of Great Yarmouth Racecourse's evening-afternoon meetings on this week.

For the layers, several long-priced upsets yesterday (Thursday) afternoon more than made up for two favourites winning.

Darey, the 1-2 market leader from Newmarket trainer William Haggas's stables, got big hitters off to a flying start under jockey Richard Hills in the EBF Norfolk Racing Club Maiden Stakes.

Denton Ryal was another one in the eye for the bookmakers, a 15-8 favourite winner of the Norfolkracingclub.co.uk, East Anglian Air Ambulance Selling Stakes.

But 33-1 shot Gracie's Games (Norfolk Racing Club / Red Herring Restaurant Maiden Handicap), 22-1 fancy Negotiation (Norfolk Racing Club / Zimzalabim.co.uk Howling Dandy Handicap) and 20-1 chance Jinto (Norfolk Racing Club / Third Crossing Restaurant Handicap) came to the aid of the men and women with the satchels.

Wild Rockette was the 5-1 victor in the Norfolkracingclub.co.uk / Premier Racing 'Free Bet Today' Fillies' Handicap.

The closing race on Thursday, the Norfolkracingclub.co.uk / Keith Loads - Norfolk's Favourite Comedian Handicap, went to Fuzzypeg (8-1).

Three favourites had won races on Wednesday evening - albeit two of them joint market leaders - before tribute band Kings of Lyon entertained the crowds.

Titus Two won the Great Yarmouth Greyhound Homefinders Maiden Auction Stakes at 11-8; 7-2 joint favourite Elusive Hawk took the Thistles and Thorns Florist Caister Handicap; while the finale, the J&H Signs Handicap, went to Star Twilight as a 9-4 joint favourite.

The opening race of the two-day meeting, the George Darling Memorial Apprentice Handicap, was won by 10-1 chance Colinca's Lad.

Ancient Greece led the way at 6-1 in the Yarmouth Greyhound Stadium Claiming Stakes, while Broughtons Point took the Banham Poultry Handicap at 13-2.
