MUMS and dads have received some expert guidance on giving their children a helping hand with the three Rs. Parents attended a meeting at St George's First School in Great Yarmouth to show them how to help pupils' master reading, writing and maths.

The session was organised and delivered by special educational needs co-ordinator Sandie Robinson, literacy leader Sharron Mitchell and numeracy leader Jamie Kirkham who are currently exploring and developing this important area.

Many parents attended and were presented with a variety of child friendly activities to try at home, as well as advice on developing and reinforcing key skills. They also received home support packs, which were well received and contained a wealth of ideas and practical items to help parents reinforce their children's learning. The next stage of development will explore how the schools website can enable increased access to a range of resources that parents and children can access at home.
