Children, parents and staff at St George's First School were busy last week during safeguarding week, an annual event that explores how to keep children safe. This year the focus was exploring social and emotional skills.

At St George's the whole community came together and a range of activities was planned to involve children and their parents. Activities included play sessions for families. The school also ran a parent workshop looking at making meals fun and exploring rewards systems that could be used at home. Each year group explored feelings and emotions, including the role of friends and Years 2 and 3 explored coping with change in preparation for the transfer to junior schools in July. The school also offered class drama sessions which were led by the schools drama therapist teacher.

Mr Kirkham who organised the event said: “There has been a real community spirit.”
