The New Horizons project has been set up by YMCA Norfolk and is based at St Paul’s Lodge on Salisbury Road.

It will provide rooms and communal spaces for nine young people with a range of needs.

Chief executive of YMCA Norfolk, Tim Sweeting, said: “Our aim is to make the house as close to a family home as possible – staffing 24/7 for 365 days a year – eating meals together, planning, sharing chores and gaining independence.”

Resident at YMCA Yarmouth, Jamie Copping, spoke at the official opening on Tuesday. He described the support the organisation has given him as “immense”. Mr Sweeting added: “We want to support more young people like Jaime as they will be the ones to bring about positive change in Yarmouth. This project is part of our long-term commitment to the town.”

Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Mary Coleman attended the opening and thanked the YMCA for providing the project in the town and to all those that had helped make it happen.
