People will be able to step back in time with an historic Norfolk family at a special day to be held at Blofield Church in September.

The wealthy Paston family had Blofield connections through Edward Paston, who lived in the village during the 16th century, and that will be celebrated at the commemorative event at the church.

Village historian Barbara Pilch said Edward travelled across Europe and spoke many languages. He was also a talented musician who collected the music of English composer William Byrd.

Jo Berry, chairman of the Paston Heritage Society Ltd, which is running the special event, said: “They did have quite a large family and they owned much of north Norfolk at one point.”

The society has held days in Oxburgh, where there were also family connections, but it is the first time it has staged an event in Blofield.

Members of the Paston Heritage Society will come in medieval costume to demonstrate many skills of the 15th century and aspects linked to the letter writing of the Pastons.

Step Back to the Time of the Pastons” will be held on Saturday, September 10 between 10.30am and 4.30pm. A 6.30pm service of Compline in Latin will be held afterwards.
