BIRDS had better beware with the start of the Martham Scarecrow Festival, which kicks off early next month.

Being opened on Sunday, May 2 at 10am by the mayor of Great Yarmouth, it will begin a couple of days in which scarecrows will be popping up all over the village.

There will also be a number of garden and garage sales held by the residents, as well as craft and charity stalls and fair rides on the village green.

The festival runs on Sunday and Monday from 10am till 5pm, and there will even be a treasure hunt, with question sheets available from 5p.m. on Saturday from the marquee on the green.

And those who like their scarecrows a bit more active can visit the 'living scarecrows' at the Martham Grouped Homes, who will be serving refreshments and cream teas.

In St Mary's Church, visitors who pop in from Saturday morning will find it open with an art exhibition, refreshments, charity stall and Climb the Tower. The Methodist Chapel will also be open for refreshments.

Additionally, the village hall is open on Sunday for fundraising event for Homes for the Disabled, and to top it off on Sunday at 5.30pm the green will become the venue for Songs of Praise.
