COMPUTING and IT students at Great Yarmouth College have been behind the scenes at two of Norfolk's leading food companies to investigate how their IT systems work.

Students visited Bernard Matthews Farms and Kettle Foods to learn firsthand about systems in industry.

The students in the new School of Computing and Learning Resources were hosted at the Bernard Matthews factory near Norwich where head of IT, Edwin Pearson gave them a PowerPoint presentation.

At Kettle Foods, IT diploma students also had a talk about its IT system and its history to help them with an assignment

Tutor Matthew Rowe said visits were integral to courses and more were being planned. He said: “It is vital for students to get out and look at systems in the workplace for them to have a realistic idea of what happens in industry after college and how their knowledge is applied.”
