STUDENTS from Great Yarmouth College have helped the fundraising total for the palliative care centre at James Paget University Hospital to take off by raising money at a Butterfly Ball.
STUDENTS from Great Yarmouth College have helped the fundraising total for the palliative care centre at James Paget University Hospital to take off by raising money at a Butterfly Ball.
The travel and tourism students at the college raised �700 at the Ball at the Oasis Sports and Leisure Club at Thorpe, but have also raised money from previous fundraisers involving travel and tourism students.
The money from the Ball came from ticket sales, a raffle and slave auctions involving the students.
The total means the students will have a butterfly in their honour displayed in the centre once it has been built.
The Palliative Care East appeal aims to raise �1.5m for a new centre at the hospital which will provide day care services to people with terminal illnesses.
Forthcoming events in aid of the appeal include:
Afternoon tea, coffee and cakes at The Old Granary Studio at Maypole Green in Toft Monks on Thursday between 2pm and 4pm.
There will be a slide show and talk by Andrew Brogan, who has appeared on BBC TV. Entry is free, but donations are welcome and there will be a raffle. Money will go to the Palliative Care East appeal and Combat Stress, which looks after veterans' mental health.
