Eight trophies and two medals spelled success for the Chinto Karate members in Great Yarmouth when they competed in the EKCC Grand Karate Open at Clacton on Sea recently.
The team comprised Sensei Tracy pillar, 5th dan, John Edwards, Edoua Edoua, Lily Steward, Sigourney Nixon, Keith Nixon, James Gough, Harley Edwards, Daisy-May Johnson, Elizabeth Smith and coach James Campbell, shodan.
A week later, four students – Chloe Gomes, Daisy-May Johnson, Elizabeth Smith and Lily Steward - attended the UWK England National Karate Championships in Sheffield. Chloe narrowly missed being placed but did herself proud against older and more experienced black belts. Daisy-May got through to second round in kata and was close to getting into the final six but unfortunately was beaten by the eventual winner in kumite.
Elizabeth achieved first place in shobu ippon and is UWK national champion and Lily made it to the finals in kumite.
Two of the group’s AMA England squad students flew out to Italy this week to compete at the second World Karate Championships in Montecatini Terme until 3rd December 3.
