A Lowestoft martial arts instructor who has been teaching for more than 40 years picked up 10 medals along with one of his students at the world games in Florida.
Johnny Johnson from Gorleston, who teaches Chinese Kempo Gung Fu twice a week at Nirvana Fitness in Lowestoft, competed in the World Martial Arts Games with Colin Meacher, together bringing home eight world champion gold medals, a silver and bronze for Team GB.
Mr Meacher, 47, said: “The competition was a success even though it was under threat from Hurricane Irma. It was brought forward a day to compensate and was practically unhindered.
“Our style which is the Chinese Kempo Kung Fu system made a very big impact at the world games. We competed in a variety of sections involving traditional open hand forms/katas, traditional and creative weapon forms/katas, point sparring and self defence creative and reality.”
