MORE than 300 people have signed a petition in support of plans to turn a hair and beauty shop in Acle into an Indian restaurant.

Yesterday, Broadland District Council planners discussed a change of use application to turn Acle Hair and Beauty on The Street into an Indian restaurant, which would employ 10 people.

A total of 12 objections have been sent to the council about the plans because of concerns over noise and odour emanating from the restaurant and fears it will ruin the look of the village centre and a neighbouring grade II listed building,

Residents were also worried that if approved any new food business could cause parking and litter problems.

They also say it is not needed as there enough restaurants in Acle.

Acle Parish Council also echoed the same parking and loss of amenity concerns.

However a report by the council to be discussed on Wednesday says: “Petitions in support of the application containing a total of 316 signatures have also been received.

“Signatories were not exclusive to Acle and lived across a fairly wide area.”

The report goes on to recommend the plans for approval and says the restaurant will not have an adverse impact on the town centre and that highways officials did not object to the plans.

Planners say the applicant, M Kahn, will install a sound proof extraction flue.
