A Gorleston beach cleaning event has been backed by a range of companies and community groups.
Gorleston Community Beach Clean organisers held their first event last November, with 65 volunteers grabbing a bag and helping out.
Following on from the success, organisers, Melanie Ruse and Peter Kirkpatrick, decided to schedule a second clean for April and the event has picked up support from a diversity of backers.
The date of April 22 was originally chosen to coincide with the end of the school holidays, but by happy coincidence, the date transpired to be World Earth Day.
The Marine Conservation Society, who also helped to organised last year’s event, were then contacted by Surfers Against Sewage, who suggested joining forces with the cleaning project.
From there the clean continued to gather momentum, with gaming community Playmob getting in touch and agreeing to sponsor the event.
The group organise Gaming for Good and are promoting a Pokemon Go Live event.
The game sees players search for different Pokemon creatures in their surroundings, which can be located and captured using their mobile devices, earning points.
On World Earth Day, players will be encouraged to join clean up events in 31 different sites across the world.
Playmob has provided £150 towards equipment costs and Great Yarmouth Borough Council are also assisting with provisions and collections, having already offered guidance with regard to organisation and planning.
As previously, the Marina Bay Café, Jay Jays, Stormhouse Café and Doggie Diner will all be providing discounts and use of facilities for volunteers who join the beach clean, including £1 hot drinks.
The Central England Co-op has also joined the swathes of supporters for the event.
Supervised children and dogs are welcome to join the beach clean, with registration and briefing commencing at 9.30am at the Marina Bay Cafe.
It is hoped there will be enough volunteers to tidy up the quayside too and the organisers expect the clean to be finished by noon.
