A group of six swimmers face a chilly fundraising challenge tomorrow as they plunge into the North Sea to raise money for an appeal to build a Norfolk palliative care centre.

The six hardy souls will be taking a Christmas Day dip near the Pier Hotel in Gorleston in aid of the Palliative Care East Appeal to build a day centre in the grounds of the James Paget University Hospital.

They will be plunging into the North Sea at noon and they expect to spend up to 10 minutes in the icy waters.

So far the group comprising former BBC Radio Norfolk presenter Tony Mallion, his two sons, James and Tom, friends Fraser Gould and Sam Currie and JPH matron Dawn Taylor have collected 120 in sponsorship for the appeal.
