School pupils thinking of a college course in September can take part in a series of taster sessions to help them make the right choice.

Great Yarmouth College is running a series of tasters at the Southtown campus - aimed mainly at Year 11 school students- to offer opportunities to experience what studying at the college is like and what to expect as a student.

It is the first year the college has offered the sessions. Their aim is to give extra help to students choosing courses and to ease the transition from school to college

Mark Bayley, head of sales and marketing at the college said: “We had almost 1,000 young people through our doors at our Open Days last November but the Taster Sessions are the ideal opportunity for them to have a look at the specific area of the college they are interested in, to meet our staff and to find out exactly what the course is like.”

Tasters coming up are for health, care and social sciences, beauty therapy, catering and hospitality, customer services, hairdressing, public services, sport, travel and tourism, construction and engineering and art and design, fashion, media and performing arts.

The sessions for construction and engineering and performing arts will take place in the college's new 10million of buildings.

The new Centre for Construction and Manufacturing Technologies opened last week offering more than 6m worth of facilities and workshop space for more than 500 students.
