THREE cute teddy bears have been stolen from a Great Yarmouth art gallery prompting fears they pose a danger to children.

Snuzzley, Arabella and Edwin were taken from the Guild Gallery in Victoria Arcade.

The burglars ignored a whole stash paintings as they took the handmade bears and 50 in cash from the gallery.

Set up in July 2009 the gallery features 182 pieces of arts by 43 members of the Yarmouth Guild of Artists and Craftsmen.

It is feared the handmade collectible bears, which are worth 375, could pose a danger to children as they contain materials not suitable for under 14-year-olds.

Made by 64-year Angela Fenn, the bears contain fine wood wool and glass eyes which could easily be pulled out by a child.

It took Mrs Fenn about a month to make the biggest bear, Snuzzley, who is 23ins, weighs five lbs and is worth 165.

Snuzzley also have flexi-limbs and growls when moved backwards and forwards.

He is described by the gallery as a modern style fun bear who was created with love and care by Mrs Fenn.

Arabella is 17in and is described as “A modern style bear with large feet”. Edwin is 16in and has a small hump on his back.

All the bears are made of Hembolds mohair, polyester stuffing, perle cotton and suede.

It is thought the burglars took the bears because of their high price tags and the fact they could be sold on or given away as presents.

Mrs Fenn, who makes the bears during the night time as she is an insomniac, said: “I am really shocked and upset that someone took my bears.

“These bears are unique as no two handmade bears are the same

“But at the end of the day it is not a tragedy.

“It is a shame they probably have been taken by someone who does not love teddy bears and stole them to make money.”

Maggie Dawson, from the Yarmouth Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, said: “It is shame for Angela as she spent many hours making these wonderful looking bears.”

The burglary happened between the night of Friday, October 15 and the next morning with offenders smashing a toilet window to gain entry. It is believed the offenders then tried to break into other shops in Victoria Arcade.

Anyone with information on the burglary or who knows where the bears are should call police officers of the south Yarmouth safer neighbourhood team on 0845 4564567.

The Guild Gallery is open from 10am to 4pm Mondays to Saturdays.
