Brothers thank farmer who salvaged their parents’ Australian holiday

The selfless actions of a farmer has salvaged an Ormesby couple’s dream holiday Down Under.

David and Janice Ford, both 64 of Ormesby St Margaret, were on their way to Norwich Airport to jet off to Australia when their car became stuck in a snow drift in Filby.
Having already had to turn around because of another abandoned car, the couple had to leave their own vehicle in a drift on Filby Lane - with their luggage inside.
However, the quick thinking of their sons Daniel and Ben, and a Good Samaritan farmer, their holiday is back on.
Daniel Ford said: “They were going to visit my youngest brother Elliot who has been travelling in Australia, so this was an extremely important holiday for them.
“The thought of the car being left and not knowing how long, or even if they could get their cases was upsetting and worrying.”
Having spoken to his parents on Thursday morning, Mr Ford and his brother set off to retrieve the cases, and - hopefully - the car.

They arrived at the car, armed with sack barrows, to discover it had been blocked further by a wall of snow.
They then came across a farmer, who only identified himself to them as Chris, who agreed to help.
Mr Ford added: “We explained our situation and Chris kindly worked on clearing the snow to reach the car.
“While he was doing that, Ben and I got to the car on foot and retrieved the cases and hand luggage, This was dropped back to our parents, with huge delight knowing they could carry on the holiday.
“The next challenge was to clear the snow around the car and drive it home. Thankfully Chris had successfully cleared a further 150m of snow across the road to eventually allow us to drive the car free.
“I am extremely grateful for the kindness of the farmer to clear the snow. This kind gesture and willingness to help complete strangers must be recognised.”
Mr Ford added he wanted to spread the word of the farmer’s kindness with the hashtag #ThankTheFarmer/
