THE donations have continued to flow in for the Palliative Care East appeal at the James Paget University Hospital as it approaches its target of 1.5m for a new centre in the hospital's grounds.

Staff at Norton Peskett solicitors, which has five offices across Norfolk and Suffolk, collected 500 from a Summer Party night at Southwold Cricket Club pavilion.

The money will be put towards a fund to raise 2,000 for a butterfly in the name of Norton Peskett, which has so far collected 1,304.50.

Keith Huxley, marketing administrator with the solicitors, presented a cheque to Andrea Baxter-Pownall, specialist palliative care nurse. Norton Peskett has offices in Beccles, Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, Halesworth and Lowestoft.

The appeal has also come up smelling of roses thanks to a flower and fun evening held at Yarmouth High School at the end of November.

The evening raised 1,550 for the appeal.

In October, the Mercury revealed the appeal total had reached 945,000 and work could start early this year on the new centre which will provide respite care for people with terminal illnesses.

Further fundraising events are planned for the appeal:

On March 20 there will be dinner and dancing to 1960s music from the band Ashes to Ashes at the Ocean Room in Gorleston.
